Rangers boss Gerrard closing in on deal for Brighton winger Murphy

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is closing in on another transfer victory.

Gerrard is set to seal a deal for the Brighton winger Jamie Murphy. He played on loan at the club during the second half of the season.

Now he will agree a permanent deal with the club to become Gerrard's third signing, after Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor.

Gerrard still has a lot of work to do. The club's director of football Mark Allen also admitted they need to make more signings.

Allen said to the Daily Star: "We need people that can handle the pressure, who understand what it means to wear the shirt and cope with playing in it.

"We have to find a certain pedigree of player to play for Rangers.

"I need to sit down with Steven and go through every single thing in detail, we're doing everything on the telephone at the moment because he's not here."
