Rangers boss Gerrard aims for Brighton defender Goldson

New Rangers coach Steven Gerrard is determined to sign Brighton defender Connor Goldson.

Gerrard is looking to build his squad from the back in cooperation with another Liverpool legend, Gary McAllister, and Rangers' director of football Marc Allen.

After the goalkeeper Allan McGregor returned to the Ibrox side, Rangers are now aiming for a centre-back and Goldson fits in perfectly with their plans.

The defender hasn't enjoyed regular first team football in the past two seasons and would reportedly seize this opportunity, but the Seagulls have rejected Rangers' first offer.

Another Brighton player, Jamie Murphy, could make a permanent move to Rangers after his loan at the Scottish club comes to an end.
