Rangers boss: Derby must wait for Carroll

Roy Carroll's return south of the border remains on hold with Rangers boss Walter Smith yet to find adequate goalkeeping cover.

Derby were keen to recruit the former Manchester United and West Ham shot-stopper, while Rangers have most recently been linked with Darren Ward at Sunderland.

Smith said: "It's fairly straight-forward on that one. Currently, we are attempting to sign another goalkeeper. We can't really let him go until we do.

"So far, we haven't had a great deal of success. If we can manage to do so, Roy has an opportunity to move back to England again which we are happy for him to do.

"The only hold-up is that we haven't managed to get another goalkeeper in to take his place."
