Ferguson said: "I'm looking forward to facing Vieira. I used to watch some fantastic battles between him and Roy Keane during Arsenal-Manchester United games and it was great to see two of the best players in the world going up against each other.
"They were two players I really respected at the time. I played against Vieira during my spell in the Premiership and I also faced Makelele. So I'll be playing against two of the best midfielders in the business.
"And I'm sure it's the same for the other lads within our ranks. The defenders will be looking forward to trying to keep their strikers in check and I'm sure the attackers will all be keen to try and get the better of their defenders. That's the way you look at these fixtures; well, I certainly do, anyway.
"Yes, you give them the respect they are due. Many of them have won the World Cup and the European Championship, played in major competitions throughout their careers and enjoyed a great deal of success at both club and international level.
"But you can't afford to be in awe of them. You've got to go out there and play your own game and try to do what you are good at."
