Ramos admits relief as Tottenham survive in Krakow

Juande Ramos admitted relief as Tottenham held on against Wisla Krakow to progress to the UEFA Cup group round.

Spurs ended up clinging onto their 3-2 aggregate lead at Stadion Wisly, with desperate defending and fine goalkeeping from Heurelho Gomes keeping the Polish champions at bay.

The performance from Spurs may not be the platform to lift the gloom at the club, although Ramos is hoping that avoiding another defeat and advancing is something to build on.

"At this moment, the important thing is qualification, which is the same (as a win)," he said.

"There was no euphoria, it was just a sense of getting the job done.

"To play another four matches in the competition for the club is very important. Most important now is Hull and we need to get off the bottom quickly."

The visitors had extended their lead when Arkadiusz Glowacki put through his own goal just before the hour mark while being put under intense pressure by Fraizer Campbell, who was making his first start.

Ramos, who fielded an attacking line-up with Campbell and Darren Bent playing together, then defended Spurs' lead by bringing on defenders.

Wisla's pressure resulted in Pawel Brozek lobbing Gomes seven minutes from time - setting up the thrilling finish.

"In the last moments Wisla were losing and put four or five players in our penalty area," Ramos said.

"We needed to defend well, but I think we had control of the match.

"I think the team is playing OK. The victory is very good for the team and match-to-match we need to improve.

"Two or three victories and I'm sure the mentality of players will change. It is difficult at the moment. We need to play each match like the last. Next Sunday is a new competition, we play Hull and we need to win."
