Racing Santander have encouraged Real Madrid to make an offer for defender Ezequiel Garay.

Marca says Racing have broke off negotiations with Barcelona and made contact with Real about Garay's availability.

The young Argentine had agreed terms on a five-year deal with Barca, but Nou Camp chiefs refused to meet Racing's asking price of £9 million plus another £2.5 million based on appearances and success.
