Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn says ending their away day hoodoo is a must if they're to be successful.
Quinn acknowledges that the malaise is deep-rooted and their pain long pre-dates Bruce's appointment last summer.
Sunderland won only three games away from home in 2008-09 and two the season before that.
In fact, Sunderland have won a total of 10 Premier League games away from Wearside in their last FIVE seasons in the top flight.
"It's not just last season, either," said former Sunderland striker Quinn. "It goes right back to the years when I was playing here.
"I had a look a while back and our record in the Premier League, since it started, is poor - it hurts.
"We have to change what happens to this team away from home."
