Sunderland chairman Niall Quinn insists the door has not been shut on Asamoah Gyan.
Gyan quit Sunderland this week for a loan move to Al Ain in the UAE.
"We all found the footballing decision that Asamoah wished to make baffling," said chairman Niall Quinn. "Steve's frustrations towards the player were understandable at the time, but since then they've made contact and are on good terms.
"The olive branch is now there for Asamoah - but he will need to convince Steve, the board and every Sunderland fan of his commitment to this club if he is to return."
