Queensland Roar striker Mitch Nichols could be given a surprise start in the Socceroos upcoming Asian Cup qualifier.
The 20-year old has been in superb form of late, scoring in the both legs of the Roar’s semi-final win over Central Coast Mariners and coming agonisingly close on a number of occasions in the preliminary final loss to Adelaide United on the weekend.
National coach Pim Verbeek said Nichols may well start against Kuwait in Canberra on March 5.
"Mitch has done very well. I thought about him for Indonesia but I didn't want to take him too early. But I've seen all the games of Roar and he's always in the penalty box," Verbeek said today.
"Okay, he should be a little more cool in front of goal but he's a good player, a good age and a good guy."
