Queensland overtake Adelaide with superb performance

Queensland Roar have fought from a goal down to eventually outgun the Perth Glory 4-2 at Suncorp Stadium. The visitors opened the scoring through Nikita Rukavytsya who controlled the ball in the area and turned swiftly to hit the back of the net in the 21st minute.

Just six minutes later, Roar youngster Mitch Nichols levelled to give Frank Farina's side some hope.

The scores remained that way until the break and it was time for the coaches to use tactics in a bid to gain the upper hand.

Farina substituted young striker Tahj Minniecon for the clever playmaking and experience of Charlie Miller whilst Perth's Dave Mitchell bought on Nick Rizzo for Wayne Srhoj.

Veteran Roar midfielder Danny Tiatto put his side ahead in the 63rd minute before Anthony Skorich scored with a sublime glancing header three minutes later to again tie it all up.

Enter the on-fire Sergio van Dijk who finished a Queensland set piece with his lovely goal scoring prowess when he tucked one past the helpless Tando Velaph in Perth's goal to put his side ahead.

That lead was furthered when Roar defender Josh McCloughan headed home a pinpoint Matt McKay corner to give the home fans something to cheer about and put the Roar second on the table.

Tomorrow's Central Coast Mariners versus Adelaide United result has a huge bearing on where the Roar will finish.

If the Reds win the Roar end up third but if the Mariners can overcome Aurelio Vidmar's side then the Roar will hold on to second spot.
