QPR boss Chris Ramsey believes that youngster Darnell Furlong will benefit due to his difficult early experience in the first team.
Furlong was promoted from the U21 side by Ramsey and while he made a solid start in his debut against Hull City, the full-back was totally ripped to shreds by Crystal Palace winger Yannick Bolasie during QPR's 3-1 defeat to the Eagles last month.
The youngster has since not featured for the senior side but manager Ramsey believes that the traumatic experience against Palace will help the 19-year old become a better player in the future.
"It's difficult when you're 19 coming in - and there's not many of them that do at Premier League level," he said. "He showed he's capable, but even seasoned pros with international caps are up against it in the top flight.
"Bolasie has done that all season, and (Wilfried) Zaha done it to Yun (suk-Young) on the other side during the Palace game.
"It's something Darnell can add to his experience, and I'm glad he came in when he did. He's one for the future, but he has go back to the U21s and work with the coaches there, who will develop him so he can hold down a place in the team.
"It was a baptism, but when the season started I bet Darnell never thought he would be playing Arsenal and Palace, and Hull. It's been a pleasant surprise for him."
