QPR skipper Joey Barton feels two of his former Newcastle United teammates should have been in the England squad this week.

Barton says his ex-Newcastle team-mates Steven Taylor and Danny Simpson deserved a call.

He added: "Newcastle have had a fantastic start to the season but no one like Steven or Danny can get in the squad.

"I'm not here to pick the England team, I was just surprised there are players in there who are struggling for form. We're playing Spain and Sweden. If you're not playing well you will be found out.

"Capello is paid £6million a year to get it right. Let's hope he does."
