QPR skipper Joey Barton stands by his claims he almost joined Arsenal earlier this season.

Barton says that he came close to joining Arsenal last summer when it became clear Newcastle United would release him on a free transfer.

He said: "From what I heard, there was a lot of interest but there is a lot of difference between being interested and getting it over the line."
