QPR's Campbell happy with Barton captaincy call

QPR striker DJ Campbell feels the decision to make Joy Barton captain is a good one.

The 28-year old midfielder was handed the captain's armband for Monday night's debut against former club Newcastle United with R's manager Neil Warnock saying he will retain the duty going forward.

Campbell believes it is a good choice as Barton is a natural leader and it allows former skipper Adel Taarabt to focus on playing at his best.

"Joey's a great lad, he's been superb in the time that I've known him," Campbell told the club's official website.

"I'm delighted that he's been made captain.

"Adel was brilliant on Monday night too - it's the best I've seen him play since I've been here.

"He's got ability, everyone can see that. With the new players that we've got, you have to raise your game.

"We're in the Premier League now and the standard has gone up a couple of notches.

"It's great to have competition for places - we've got that throughout our team now."
