QPR's Barton and Marseille apologise to PSG's Thiago Silva

Marseille have apologised to French rivals Paris Saint-Germain for comments made by Joey Barton this week.

The midfielder, on loan from QPR, posted offensive comments on Twitter directed at the Brazilian defender with PSG warning they may take action if they feel the need to.

However, Marseille have moved quickly to ease the feud by releasing an apologetic statement to the Parisians and their star defender.

"L'Olympique de Marseille and Joey Barton wish to apologise to Thiago Silva and his club for the inappropriate statements held by the English player on social networks during the past 36 hours," the statement read.

"This morning, the management asked Olympian Joey Barton to put an end to the controversy which opposed him to the Brazilian defender.

"The Olympian midfielder pledged to immediately cease the posting of any derogatory statements against Thiago Silva."
