QPR encouraged in pursuit of Tottenham striker Defoe

QPR are stepping up their pursuit of Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe.

The Mirror says QPR boss Neil Warnock is desperate for proven quality up front in the January transfer window.

That is despite goals from Jay Bothroyd in the Hoops' last two games, and strikes from Heidar Helguson in the two previous games.

Defoe - who is seeking regular football ahead of Euro 2012 - has been unable to get a run in the Spurs side because of the blistering form of Rafael van der Vaart.
