QPR confirming signing of ex-Blackburn, Tottenham defender Nelsen

QPR have secured the services of veteran defender Ryan Nelsen following a short-term spell with Tottenham.

The 34-year old New Zealand international, who left Blackburn Rovers for Spurs in January, has signed a one-year deal with the R's and will arrive at Loftus Road on July 1 when his contract at White Hart Lane officially runs out.

"I am really pleased to be joining QPR," Nelsen told the club's official website. "I have obviously got a lot of history with the manager (Mark Hughes) and that was a massive draw for me.

"I like his winning attitude. He and all his staff just have an absolute desire to win, and that's what the Premier League is all about - If you haven't got that, you won't be successful.

"The owners have got fantastic ambition and it's exciting to become a part of that. There's a real buzz about the place and it is a privilege to be here.

"I have got the Olympics (with NZ U23 team) coming up and that will be a good way for me to get prepared."
