QPR chairman Tony Fernandes would welcome Joey Barton back to Loftus Road next season.
The controversial midfielder has spent this term on loan at Marseille, and wants to remain with the French side.
"There could still be an opportunity for him here but if he decides like anybody else that he would rather continue his career somewhere else, then I would prefer him to go," said Fernandes.
"Every player has got to be fair to the fans and the owners, who've been fantastic to them and find their own way out in terms of the financials.
"His loan spell at Marseille presents a fantastic opportunity for Joey but I don't think QPR should be subsidising it.
"I'd like a cleaner break - him either come back or go there permanently. There are no hard feelings on both sides. He brought a lot to the club.'"
