QPR boss Harry Redknapp has declared Roy Hodgson deserves the England job.
It's been suggested Redknapp is bitter about being overlooked by the FA.
But he told the Sunday Express: "It is a thankless task.
"Roy is more suited to the job than me. He has done his dues. He has worked around the world coaching and managing. So I wish him good luck. I don't envy him. If I was offered the job tomorrow I wouldn't want it - not now.
"I don't think it should have been me, not at all. From the moment Roy got the job I never went home that night and thought 'Oh my God'.
"I went for dinner on the Sunday night, heard it on the news and next day I went and played golf.
"Honestly, it was almost a relief."
