New QPR boss Mark Hughes is making a quickfire bid for Blackburn Rovers defender Christopher Samba.

The Daily Mail says Hughes was confirmed as Queens Park Rangers manager on Tuesday and immediately tabled a £7million bid for Samba.

It is understood Blackburn want at least £8m for their 27-year-old centre half, although it was last night unclear whether they had responded to the new offer.

But Hughes, who signed Samba from Hertha Berlin in 2007 when he was Rovers manager, will face competition from Tottenham and Paris Saint-Germain, who have also made an enquiry about the Congo defender.
