QPR boss Mark Hughes says Joey Barton accepted his axe for the defeat at Sunderland.

Hughes explained he had dropped the midfielder because he felt his replacement in midweek, Jamie Mackie, deserved a chance.

He said: "I told Joey, obviously, and he accepted it with good grace and accepted it very professionally, as I would expect him to."
