Pulis says Stoke winger Etherington deserves England recognition

Stoke City boss Tony Pulis wants Matthew Etherington to receive England recognition.

Pulis says Etherington, 29, represents Stoke's best chance of beating FA Cup opponents West Ham United and should even be on the fringes of the England squad.

"Matty may have come here under a bit of a cloud but he has undoubtedly turned it all around since then," Pulis said. "We don't deal at Crufts. We deal with Battersea Dogs' home. We pick up the strays and bring them back.

"I just think some you win, some you lose. At this level you are tossing coins all the time. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Credit to the chairman and the board who have really helped Matty through a very tough period in his life and he has responded on the pitch.

"He has been outstanding and it's up to Capello whether he picks him or not. He will be a massive asset for us and he will enjoy the game, he likes playing against West Ham."
