Former Stoke City boss Tony Pulis has revealed how he handled one of his players being tapped up.
Pulis was speaking to Ian Wright on Absolute Radio's Rock N Roll Football about Tottenham's handling of the Gareth Bale situation.
"There was a situation with one of my players two years ago and he was tapped up by one of the top Premier League Clubs. It happens all the time and I had to stay firm. I rang the agent up before speaking to the player and told them exactly what I thought so he knew where I stood," said Pulis.
"I then took the player aside and told him straight that there was absolutely no way that he would be leaving. I told him to get his head down and get on with the job. It wasn't the right time for both parties. I explained to him that his time may come to move on but this wasn't it.
"It's very important that you do deal with the agent and make sure that you are straight and forthright with them. Luckily for me at the time, Chairman Peter Coates was adamant that the kid should stay at the football club."
