Pulis insists Chelsea boss was not disrespecting Stoke

Stoke City manager Tony Pulis has made it clear that he feels Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas was not disrespecting his side after the weekend's meeting.

The Potters held the Blues to a scoreless draw at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday and after the match, Villas-Boas reportedly said that Pulis' men had resorted to 'pushing and shoving' in the box in a bid to overcome the class of the opposition.

But Pulis says he heard the Portuguese coach's comments and believes they were taken out of context by the press.

"I listened to some of the comments that he made in the press room afterwards and they have been blown out of all proportion and I mean that," Pulis said.

"He's actually said 'I think there was pushing and shoving in both boxes', but obviously it's only been reported there was pushing and shoving in our box and that's the press being the press, they have to do what they have to do.

"Chelsea are as strong and physical as we are and they don't try and hide away from that fact," he added.

"But we are both competitive teams. They have got where they have got because they have got great players but they have also got competitive players.

"I think they've scored more goals off set-plays from their defenders than any other team in the Premier League so they don't stand still when they are scoring goals.

"People have to do what they have to do and I will stand up for this football club.

"I don't think Andre, actually listening to the interview, was being disrespectful at all, but it's been blown up and you have to respect that as a manager."
