Puerari leaves Chicago Fire for Club Atlas

Chicago Fire have announced the club has agreed to terms with Club Atlas for the transfer of Uruguayan forward Gaston Puerari.

The 25-year old striker will join the Primera Division Mexico side immediately. Per team and MLS policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed. The move will free-up salary cap room and an international player spot for the Fire.

"Club Atlas was very keen on Gaston and we made the decision to accept the offer based on the best interest of building our club," said Fire Technical Director and Interim Head Coach Frank Klopas.

"This move provides us with additional flexibility to find a player who will help us achieve our goal of making the MLS Cup Playoffs. We wish Gaston nothing but the best with his new club."

Puerari joined the Fire prior to the start of the 2011 MLS campaign. The Paysandu, Uruguay product appeared in 14 matches for the Men in Red, starting 10, and tallied one goal and two assists during his time in Chicago.
