Puel gets revenge as Leicester trounce Southampton

Leicester City handed Southampton a stunning 4-1 midweek thrashing at St. Mary's on Wednesday night.

Riyad Mahrez opened the scoring for the Foxes after just 11 minutes in typical fashion; the Algerian cutting in from from the left before striking the ball low and hard past Fraser Forster.

Shinji Okazaki then pounced inside the box to double Leicester's advantage on the 32nd minute mark.

Shortly after, Claude Puel's men were in dreamland when Andy King put them up 3-0 with a tap-in at the back post.

Okazaki's compatriot, Maya Yoshida, headed home to pull one back for the hosts after 61 minutes.

But shortly enough, Ozakai restored Leicester's two-goal advantage with his second of the night.

Puel, who was sacked by Southampton at the end of last season, was ecstatic with his team's performance, telling BT Sport after the win: "The result is the result. It is a good feeling to come back here.

"It was nice to see familiar faces when I came back here. I have a lot of friends. I appreciated the staff and players.

"My team is the most important thing. I am proud of my players because we gave a fantastic game. It was important to maintain the performance and it was a good result at half-time but we came back again.

"The first goal away was important and it was a good game. I think Southampton are a good team with a good players and they deserved results against Manchester and Arsenal.

"It is a good result for us and now it's important to continue this. I think it was important to make changes and give time to players like Shinji Okazaki. it is good to see other possibilities with changes.

"If we have to ability to maintain the good results with changes it will be good for the future.

"It is still the first part of the season and the Premier League is difficult every week. All is not perfect, we still need to correct things and make progress. Since the beginning my players enjoy their game and make the fans happy which is the important thing."
