Psycho wanted at Sheffield Wednesday by Mandaric

Former Manchester City and England U21 boss Stuart Pearce is eyeing the vacant post at Sheffield Wednesday.

The Mirror says he is favourite to replace Dave Jones, who was sacked on Sunday after the Owls' disastrous start to the Championship season.

Wednesday chairman Milan Mandaric has targeted Pearce, 51, as his No1 choice to put the pride and passion back into a group of underachieving players who have cost Jones his job after 21 months in the Hillsborough hot-seat.

Pearce, nicknamed 'Psycho' because of his hard and uncompromising style of defending throughout a 19-year playing career which saw him serve Coventry, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle, West Ham and Manchester City and win 78 England caps, has been looking for a return to football since last June.
