PSV Eindhoven are lining up a deal for released Aston Villa fullback Wilfred Bouma.

The Sunday Mercury says Bouma joined PSV as a 16-year-old and went on to make well over 150 appearances for the Eredivisie giants before he was signed to Villa by David O'Leary in 2005.

However, a horrific ankle dislocation in July 2008 effectively ended his Villa career, as several comeback attempts proved to be in vain.

Bouma's agent Ger Lagendijk said: "He would like to stay in England but deep in his heart he would prefer to return to PSV. After all the injuries he is now ready for a fresh start."
