PSG's Motta enjoyed new Italy role

PSG's Italian midfielder Thiago Motta was happy with his performance in the Azzurri's defeat to USA.

Motta had an unusual new position as trequartista in Italy's surprise defeat to the USA and the experiment did not go according to plan.

"Clearly my role is a little deeper, but I feel comfortable there too and it was a privilege to play. I am not satisfied, obviously, as the result was disappointing and we cannot be content with it," said the former Inter midfielder, now at Paris Saint-Germain.

"I felt good there, as with Andrea Pirlo deeper he knows how to put the ball between the lines and we did well in a few chances, but couldn't turn them into goals.

"We faced a side that closed up very well, we had a few difficulties, but we have to improve and know that we are a great squad who can do better.

"There is real confidence within the squad of what we can do and I am convinced we'll have a great Euros. It's only normal after a defeat to ask questions, but we can go far and reach Euro 2012 when we're at 100 per cent."
