Proud Man City boss Guardiola not fazed by Man Utd defeat - ‘We are happy’

Pep Guardiola did not appear too concerned after Manchester City were beaten by Manchester United in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

The Manchester derby ended in a 1-0 result to the Red Devils at Old Trafford which ended their run in the cup competition they won last season.

Juan Mata's 54th-minute goal was the difference between the crosstown rivals and despite seeing his winless run extend to six matches - the most in his managerial history - Guardiola seemed pleased with his side.

He told Sky Sports: "I'm so proud of our performance congrats to United for the next step.

"I'm so proud of the young players of how we played. We had our chances but I'm so proud.

"At that level, when you arrive to be more clinical in the last part (final third) and we try to do that, but it's always difficult against United. We competed good."

Regarding the performances of his younger players such as Pablo Maffeo at right-back and Alexi Garcia in midfield, Pep added: "They did it well, they did it good.

"Maffeo was amazing fighting with (Marcus) Rashford and (Paul) Pogba, he won almost all the duels.

"Aleix played well and the other guys. We are happy."

After being dumped from the league cup, Guardiola added further: "I want to try to win, ok that competition is gone.

"Now we try in the other competitions."
