Manchester United signing Memphis Depay will not be following in the footsteps of illustrious company after being handed squad number 26 at Old Trafford.
United splashed a sizeable £25million to secure the services of Dutch international Depay from PSV Eindhoven this summer and there is understandably a lot of expectations on the young winger's shoulders.
It has now been revealed that Depay has been handed the number 26 by manager Louis van Gaal but United fans will be hoping that the 21-year old can do better at Old Trafford than the predecessors who donned the same number on their jerseys over the past few years.
Before Depay, the 26 has been occupied by flop trio Manucho, Gabriel Obertan and Shinji Kagawa suggesting Depay does not have too much of a tough task on his hands to bypass his numerical predecessors.
