Preston boss Simpson under increasing pressure

Preston boss Paul Simpson is under mounting pressure after the club released a statement admitting they were "very disappointed with the performance and result" after North End suffered a 3-0 defeat at Hull.

Simpson has found himself under pressure in recent weeks and conceded a "majority" of the club's travelling fans turned on him after a lacklustre display.

Now the club are set for further discussions at a board meeting this week. A statement on the club's website, www.pnefc.co.uk read: "The chairman and the directors don't believe that following a game, when there is a lot of emotion about, that it is the right time to make a statement or speak directly to the press.

"However, they were very disappointed with the performance and result at Hull City and will be discussing the team's results so far this season at a board meeting that was already scheduled to take place later on next week.

"The club has no further comment to make at this time and a statement will be issued after the meeting."
