Preston saw off Sheffield United thanks to their two on-loan Manchester United players.

Midfielder Matt James joined fellow Red Devil Danny Welbeck on loan at Deepdale last week and scored on his debut while Welbeck won a crucial late penalty.

And proud North End boss Darren Ferguson said: "I think it's good for Danny and Matt that they've come to a good football club and both have settled in well.

"I thought to a man we were magnificent tonight."
