Pressure the key to beating Gold Coast - Nth Qld's Ferguson

North Queensland Fury coach Ian Ferguson believes the best way to beat Gold Coast United is to get under their skin.

The former Rangers star wants his players to get in the face of their Gold Coast opponents and unsettle them, especially as they will be thinking about more important things ahead such as the finals series.

"Gold Coast don't like to be put under intense pressure and that's just what we'll be doing," Ferguson said.

"When you get about them it seems to unsettle them. They took us apart 5-0 in Round 2 back in August but we've come a long way from that humiliation and have shown we know how to beat them.

"The truth is, they have been a bit susceptible when teams close them down and deny them space and that's our game all over. I like my players to be ultra energetic and we'll be trying to deny them the time on the ball to hurt us."

Ferguson added that it was important to close the likes of Jason Culina, Joel Porter and Shane Smeltz to give yourself the best chance and that's what he plans to do in the final Fury match of the season.

"If you give that time to Culina, Porter, Smeltz and the likes you are likely to be in real trouble because they are top quality players. We need to finish the season on a high and then regroup and go out and sign four or five new players for next season," he added.

"We haven't thrown in the towel by any means but we know Gold Coast present a big challenge because they have so much to play for and because they have been a revelation since coming into the competition."
