Presence of ex-Everton star allowing me to settle at NYRB - Carney

David Carney admits having Tim Cahill alongside him at New York Red Bulls has helped him settle quickly at his new club.

The 29-year old winger, who can also operate at left-back, recently joined the Red Bulls after being without a club since departing Bunyodkor in September but has now made the Red Bull Arena his new home.

Carney is still waiting for his debut with the Red Bulls but as he prepares for that, he says life has been made much easier knowing that fellow Australian Cahill is there for support.

"Obviously yeah, it makes me settle in a bit better," said Carney.

"Obviously when I was with the Aussie team and he (Cahill) used to always go on about the facilities and it's a great league and a lot of good players in that, so that wasn't really a question of making the decision."

Carney also revealed that it was a very lengthy process in the lead-up to him actually signing a contract with New York.

"It was about 3-4 months ago when it first came up. I was almost going to sign with someone else at the time, but I was really interested in coming here, so when that fell through it was like I was actually relieved in a way," he added.

"Obviously they've done the research and brought the offer. You know, it took a bit of time to get over the line, but now it's done and I'm happy to get amongst it."
