Newcastle’s hopes of Champions League football next season took a tumble as they went down 4-0 at relegation threatened Wigan who did their survival hopes a power of good with four strikes before the break.

Arsenal drew 1-1 at Stoke City a ground they have struggled at in recent seasons, but with Newcastle losing look likely to secure third place in the table and a place in the Champions League.

Bolton Wanderers remain in the relegation places on goal difference after a battling 1-1 draw at Sunderland who failed to win for a sixth successive game.

Aston Villa remain on the fringes of the drop zone despite a scoreless encounter away to Midland rivals West Bromwich Albion and remain on course for their lowest ever points tally in the top flight.

Everton had an emphatic 4-0 home success over lacklustre visitor’s Fulham, with the host’s racing into a three goal lead by the interval and now looking likely to end the season above Liverpool for the first time since 2005.

A Luis Suarez hat-trick saw Liverpool take full advantage of Norwich’s defensive lapses to cruise to a 3-0 victory at Carrow Road ahead of next week’s FA Cup Final appearance.
