PREMIERSHIP WRAP: Burnley boost survival hopes with first away win, whilst West Ham move clear of drop zone

Burnley came from behind to hammer fellow strugglers Hull 4-1 and claim their first away win of the season. Portsmouth were relegated following West Ham's 1-0 win over Sunderland at Upton Park.

Kevin Kilbane headed Hull into a third-minute lead but ex-Scunthorpe forward Martin Paterson equalised after 35 minutes.

If Hull were disappointed going in at the break all level it was Burnley who bossed the second half scoring three times.

Graham Alexander netted a penalty double in the 64th and 70th minutes and Wade Elliott curled in a stoppage-time fourth.

This was only the Clarets second win in 14 Premier League matches under manager Brian Laws.

Brazilian striker Ilan earned West Ham a vital triumph over Sunderland.

The 29-year-old followed up his equaliser against Everton last weekend with the only goal against Sunderland as West Ham edged four points clear of the relegation zone.

Ilan latched onto Carlton Cole's downward header to put the Hammers ahead just after the break.
