PREMIER LEAGUE WRAP: Liverpool go second, Arsenal beaten as Schurrle fires Chelsea hat-trick

Liverpool moved to second spot on the Premier League table courtesy of a 3-0 win at Southampton on the weekend.

The Reds made it four wins in a row and extended their unbeaten streak to nine after Luis Suarez, Raheem Sterling and Steven Gerrard all found the back of the net at St Mary's Stadium.

Liverpool remain four points behind league leaders Chelsea but have moved ahead of Arsenal on goal difference following the Gunners' disappointing 1-0 defeat at Stoke City.

Arsene Wenger's side conceded a second-half penalty when Laurent Koscielny handled the ball in the area for Jon Walters to step up and send Wojciech Szczesny the wrong way, giving the Potters a third big win at the Britannia Stadium after beating Chelsea and Manchester United at home earlier in the season.

Chelsea extended their lead at the top of the table by beating bottom-placed Fulham 3-1 at Craven Cottage thanks to a first hat-trick in English football to Andre Schurrle who struck his treble within 16 minutes in the second half.

Elsewhere, Moussa Sissoko netted twice as Newcastle United beat Hull City 4-1 away, Everton edged West Ham United 1-0, Aston Villa came from behind to hammer Norwich City 4-1 courtesy of a Christian Benteke brace, Crystal Palace netted late to force a 1-1 draw with ten-man Swansea City and Tottenham narrowly beat Cardiff City 1-0 at White Hart Lane.

Manchester City's clash with neighbours Manchester United had been rescheduled to allow the former to compete in the Capital One Cup which they won, beating Sunderland 3-1 at Wembley, as the Black Cats had their league fixture with West Bromwich Albion postponed.
