PREMIER LEAGUE: Wolves claim vital win in Black Country derby

Wolves moved out of the bottom three and are now just one point above the drop zone after a crucial 3-1 home win over local rivals West Bromwich Albion. The form guide had favoured Albion but with Premiership survival at stake Wolves roared into a two goal lead before the half-hour mark.

Leading scorer Steven Fletcher score the first of his brace after 15 minutes with the first of two corners which were prove the visitor's undoing.

Stephen Hunt took the set piece and the ball fell kindly to Fletcher to hammer home from close range. Then on 28 minutes another corner and another goal.

Hunt again was the provider, only this time Fletcher heads the ball back for Adlene Guedioura to volley home.

Wolves had not won in five games but sealed the three points within a couple of minutes of the restart as Abdoulaye Meite made an error in trying to control the ball allowing Fletcher to race away and score past Scott Carson.

West Brom were given slight hope with a soft penalty decision on Jerome Thomas which Peter Odemwingie duly dispatched making him the first player this season to score in five successive Premier League games.

Albion hit the woodwork and had shots scrambled away as the visitor's took the ascendancy but Wolves held out and safely negotiated five minutes of injury time before the relief of the final whistle.
