Wigan Athletic have forced a 1-1 draw with Chelsea at DW Stadium this evening.
The Latics more than held their own against the Blues, who were coming off Monday's big win over league leaders Manchester City, with Jordi Gomez giving the home side a vital point after the visitors took the lead just prior to the hour-mark.
That goal when Ashley Cole played a long diagonal ball into the area for Daniel Sturridge who controlled with the outside of his left foot before firing home with his right from an angle for ninth of the season and four in past five.
Wigan were slowly building towards something and although it took time, the leveler finally came a couple of minutes from time when Gomez tapped in from close range for his fourth in five. The ball fell to the Spaniard when Chelsea keeper Petr Cech made a fatal error when he spilled a toe-poke from Hugo Rodallega, gifting a point to Roberto Martinez and his men.
It was a deserved draw for Wigan who moved to 13 points but remained third bottom on the table as Chelsea recorded their 32nd point of the season to stay third.
