PREMIER LEAGUE: Wigan and Stoke share the points

Wigan Athletic and Stoke City have battled out a 2-2 draw at the DW Stadium today.

Shaun Maloney and Jon Walters exchanged first-half penalties before Franco di Santo and Peter Crouch then tallied for their sides as the Potters twice came from behind to grab their third draw from their opening three matches.

Wigan, who had scored a 2-0 win at Southampton last weekend, hit the lead inside five minutes when Maloney converted from the spot by sending Asmir Begovic the wrong way.

It was the first of a pair of handball decisions, the first clearcut when James McCarthy's shot struck Stoke defender Robert Huth's hand but the second, in the 40th minute, was not so much.

Peter Crouch attempted to flick over Maynor Figueroa with the ball unknowingly glancing his hand but forcing referee Martin Atkinson to make the call. Jon Walters converted from the spot past Ali Al Habsi to tie it up late in the first half.

Just four minutes into the second half, Wigan took the lead when Arouna Kone advanced into the area from the right before sliding it to Franco di Santo who slotted home from just inside the penalty area.

Roberto Martinez's Latics had scored early in both halves but Tony Pulis' Potters again had the answer when Crouch was able to nod home Walters' aerial pass in the 77th minute after the home side were unable to clear a long Stoke throw-in.

The draw allowed Wigan to go seventh on the table as Stoke remained in the top half as they now sit tenth with three points from three outings.
