West Bromwich Albion rescued a point with a late leveller in this battle of the cellar dwellers. Wigan remain in the relegation places but they came within 11 minutes of not only pulling clear of the drop zone but of pulling level with their opponents.
Yet it was the Albion who took an early lead thanks to the pace of Peter Odemwingie but it was the Latics who ended the half the strongest and silenced the home supporters with two goals from set pieces.
Charles N'Zogbia and Ben Watson were the free kick specialists helped by slight deflections on the way.
Albion's recent form of one win in seven did not augur well for the second half yet the Latics record of winning only once in the league since November must have given the host's hope of salvaging something.
The Baggies piled forward after the break - Marc-Antoine Fortune hit the post before heading the equaliser from Jerome Thomas's cross with Jonas Olsson almost heading a winner in a frantic five minutes of added time.
