PREMIER LEAGUE: Tottenham ease past Villa

Harry Redknapp had the ideal tonic following his return from heart surgery as his Tottenham side defeated Aston Villa 2-0 at White Hart Lane. Tottenham continued their best start to a season since 1990 with a routine victory over a disappointing Aston Villa who, after a bright start, faded badly allowing Spurs to dominate the game.

The North Londoners are now unbeaten in their last nine league matches, winning eight.

Emmanuel Adebayor scored both goals in the first half then missed a host of chances after the break to claim a hat-trick.

The Togo international had Gareth Bale to thank for his brace as the Wales winger was provider on both occasions.

Adebayor's first came following Bale's delivery after Villa failed to clear a corner then it was the Welshman's driven cross which was bundled home by the former Arsenal striker.

The visitor's rarely threatened and remain without an away victory this season whilst Tottenham move up to third in the table. Referee: Mark Halsey
