PREMIER LEAGUE: Swansea clinch vital win over Watford in front of new boss

Swansea City climbed out of the relegation zone courtesy of a spirited 1-0 win over Watford at the Liberty Stadium on Monday night.

Swans captain Ashley Williams produced a powerful header in the first half to give his side a much-needed victory in Alan Curtis' final game in sole interim charge of the Welsh club.

With new head coach Francesco Guidolin watching from the stands, Swansea started brightly and found themselves in the ascendency on 27 minutes when Ki Sung-yueng's floated cross was powered home by Williams for his first Premier League goal on home soil.

Quique Sanchez Flores' Hornets came out in the second half in a much more positive manner but were unable to really test Swans keeper Lukasz Fabianski.

Bafetimbi Gomis came off the bench and almost wrapped it up for the home side early in injury-time when he rifled a left-footed effort into the upright after a strong run into the area.

Alan Curtis ends his rein as caretaker with a win and a clean sheet as he prepares to now work alongside former Udinese boss Guidolin who will have final say on team selection.

Swansea will now get ready for the weekend's trip to Everton as Watford prepare for a first league win since December 20 when they host Newcastle United at Vicarage Road.
