Summer signing Steven Fletcher has continued his golden run for new club Sunderland by netting a winner in their 1-0 triumph over Wigan Athletic at the /stadium of Light today.
The Scottish striker scored his fifth goal of the season just six minutes into the second half when he got onto the end of James McClean's mistimed shot to stab home past Ali Al Habsi.
Earlier, Black Cats keeper Simon Mignolet produced a top-class save to deny James McCarthy inside four minutes prior to him pulling off an even better save to thwart Arouna Kone at the back post.
Seb Larsson's 27th minute free-kick caused confusion in Wigan's box before Jordi Gomez was shown a straight red card for a poor challenge on Danny Rose in midfield.
Sunderland had produced four straight draws prior to today's result and now move up the table as Wigan's mediocre start to the season continues.
