Premier League stars on target as Holland edge Hungary in eight-goal thriller

Five goals from Premier League stars has seen Holland beat Hungary 5-3 in a thrilling Euro2012 qualifier in Amsterdam tonight.

Just four days after going down 4-0 in Budapest, the Hungarians came out firing but came up short against a star-studded Dutch side who fell behind after taking the lead before relinquishing their advantage and then finally getting the victory.

The Oranje struck first through Arsenal's Robin van Persie who fired home in the 13th minute before Gergely Rudolf leveled in the first minute of the second half.

Hungary then went 2-1 ahead when unsettled Fulham midfielder Zoltan Gera slotted in the 50th minute but the home side were soon back on track thanks to Wesley Sneijder's goal on the hour-mark.

Holland fired themselves into the lead in the 72nd minute when van Persie's replacement Ruud van Nistelrooy hit the back of the net after being found by Liverpool's Dirk Kuyt but Gera managed to level three minutes later with his second.

But enter Kuyt, who has been on a solid goalscoring run in recent times, and made it 4-3 in the 78th minute with a strong finish before wrapping up proceedings with just over ten minutes remaining with a superb shot from the edge of the area.

The win kept the Dutch on top of the Group E qualifying table with a perfect record from their six outings as Hungary fell to third behind Sweden who despite being on equal points have two games in hand.
