England disposed of Moldova 5-0 in Group H with Frank Lampard (Chelsea) netting twice whilst Jermain Defoe (Tottenham) marked his 50th international appearance with his second goal of the Three Lions’ season as James Milner (Manchester City) and Leighton Baines(Everton) also contributed to the one-way scoreline in Chisinau.

In Group A, Everton’s Nikica Jelavic scored the only goal as Croatia beat Macedonia 1-0 in Zagreb whilst City captain Vincent Kompany and Spurs new boy Jan Vertonghen were on target as Belgium defeated Wales 2-0 in Cardiff.

Former Spurs striker Robbie Keane (now with LA Galaxy) and Wolves forward Kevin Doyle spared Republic of Ireland’s blushes as they scored late help beat Kazakhstan 2-1 in Group C.

West Bromwich Albion’s Zoltan Gera converted from the penalty spot as Hungary hammered Andorra 5-0 in Group D as Manchester United star Robin van Persie scored as Holland beat Turkey 2-0 in the same group.

In Group G, City striker Edin Dzeko netted a hat-trick as Bosnia produced an 8-1 rout in Liechtenstein whilst Arsenal’s Abou Diaby scored France’s only goal in their 1-0 victory in Finland in Group I.
