Newcastle United have ended a four-game winless run by defeating Norwich City 1-0 at Sports Direct Arena today.
The only goal of the contest came in the 11th minute when Papiss Demba Cisse got on the end of Jonas Gutierrez's cross from the left to slot home neatly from near the penalty spot for his third goal in six appearances.
Both keepers had a bit of work to throughout with Newcastle's Tim Krul keeping out Anthony Pilkington's 22nd minute attempt before Demba Ba was denied by Norwich gloveman John Ruddy on the half-hour mark.
Ten minutes into the second half, Krul came up with another save to deny Pilkington's angled effort before the Dutchman produced a brilliant reflex save to tip over Zak Whitbread's header.
Ruddy kept out Cabaye's fierce strike in the 72nd minute with Ba unable to wrap his foot around the deflection, not once, but twice as a gilt-edged chance for the Magpies went begging but in the end, the Newcastle frontman's Senegalese teammate's earlier striker proved the difference as the home side wrapped up maximum points for a 13th time this campaign.
TRIBAL ASKS: Are Newcastle capable of challenging for a top-five finish or will they fail to catch the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea?
