Premier League Matchday 3 Preview: Can Man Utd keep rolling?; Will Chelsea prove themselves again? Can Arsenal break Liverpool hoodoo?

It's been a while since both the red of Manchester United and Liverpool have begun their seasons in unbeaten fashion, while Chelsea further enhanced the cliche that is 'a week is a long time in football' by turning the tables against the Spurs. All three sides feature in our Premier League preview this week.

Man United v Leicester City

For the first time in quite a while, Manchester United have enjoyed a blistering start to the season with consecutive 4-0 victories, while the re-signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic to a one-year deal as well as an encouraging Champions League draw will see the good mood continue at Old Trafford. Are the free-flowing, high-scoring and ruthless United of the Fergie era back?

On the other hand, Leicester too have made somewhat of a modest start, a win and a loss from two matches, also arguably in a winning position against Arsenal. Have the second-year blues from last season dissipated?

Last Time They Played:

Leicester City 0 Manchester United 3 (King Power Stadium - February 5)

Team News:

While there are no fresh injury concerns for either team, the Foxes are mounting some sort of injury list with Kelechi Iheanacho, Robert Huth, Harry Maguire and Vicente Iborra all ruled out, while Wes Morgan and Jamie Vardy are both expected to be fit to play, with the former unlikely to start following a back injury.

The question buzzing around Old Trafford in the build-up will be has Anthony Martial done enough to earn a start, or should Mourinho persist with him as the effective impact player he's showing he can be? While the player would certainly like more minutes, Marcus Rashford and Henrik Mkhitaryan have hardly put a foot wrong.

Player to Watch: Juan Mata

The Spaniard has started both games this season in midfield ahead of fan-favourite Ander Herrera, who was one of United's best last season. In a slightly more attacking set-up, Mata has flourished alongside Paul Pogba and anchored by the no-nonsense Nermaja Matic.

Mata's time at United has always been shrouded in doubt over his position in the side, but he continues to defy external noise and hold his own. The consummate professional and a vital cog of Mourinho's squad.

Prediction:Manchester United 3 Leicester City 0

The Red Devils should get the job done at home against a Leicester outfit who while plucky against Arsenal and dominant against newcomers Brighton, are hard to get a read on at this early stage. With Captain Morgan unlikely to start and Maguire injured, do they have the resolve and temperament in defence to contain the likes of Romelu Lukaku and the array of United wingers?

Chelsea v Everton

Against the odds and severely undermanned, Chelsea did what all great Antonio Conte teams do in coming away from Wembley with a victory against Spurs last weekend. They face another early-season test to their back-to-back title credentials this weekend with an in-form Everton making the trip to Stamford Bridge.

Last Time They Played:

Everton 0 Chelsea 3 (Goodison Park - April 30)

Team News:

Of the suspensions, Cesc Fabregas is available but Gary Cahill remains suspended for Chelsea, while for the Toffees, Morgan Schneiderlin is out following his red card against Man City.

Despite the impressive debut by Tiemoue Bakayoko, Fabregas is expected to slot back into midfield alongside N'Golo Kante. Meanwhile, Everton will have their midweek Europa League trip to Split to negotiate in terms of squad overhaul, with the Chelsea fixture their fourth game in nine days.

Idrissa Gueye was rested against Hajduk Split as a precaution but should be fit to take on Chelsea, while Davy Klaassen (foot) and Sandro Ramirez (heel) are both in doubt.

Player to Watch: Wayne Rooney

The veteran has enjoyed a sparkling start to his return to Everton, on the scoresheet in both fixtures thus far.

Fresh off his international retirement, Ronald Koeman described the move as "a good decision for him and a good decision for Everton." It's rumoured the Toffees are still in the market for another forward, with Chelsea's Michy Batshuayi being strongly linked to Goodison Park.

At the ripe old age of 31, it's difficult to see Rooney's form sustaining like it once did for the entirety of a Premier League campaign plus cup competitions, but if he can continue to perform in the big games like these then Everton will have done a terrific piece of business.

Prediction:Chelsea 1 Everton 1

Again, both teams form is difficult to get a read on at such an early stage of the season so you expect a scoring stalemate at the Bridge. Chelsea's personnel concerns and Everton's heavy fixture load would both appear to cancel out each other in terms of influence on the contest, and so it is difficult to pick a winner in this one.

Liverpool v Arsenal

Liverpool are undefeated in their past four matches against Arsenal dating back to August 2015, which is hardly surprising given the Reds strong recent form against the top Premier League teams.

The Reds have done quite some damage to the Gunners of late, who will be reeling following their disappointment away to Stoke last weekend.

On the other hand, the Reds have enjoyed a good week minus the continued Philippe Coutinho scuttlebutt, a win in the league and qualification for the Champions League.

Last Time They Played:

Liverpool 3 Arsenal 0 (Anfield - March 4)

Team News:

In a big boost for Arsenal, pair Alexis Sanchez (abdominal strain) and Laurent Koscielny (suspension) will return to the line-up in some capacity for the trip to Anfield, where they have not won in the league since 2012.

While there are no fresh injury concerns for Liverpool, they too will have their midweek Champions League Qualifier trip to Germany to navigate, as Jurgen Klopp is likely to make some changes to the line-up with the likes of Andy Robertson and Daniel Sturridge unused substitutes.

Player to Watch: Sadio Mane

Despite the growing speculation surrounding Coutinho's future at the club, Sadio Mane has emerged as Liverpool's main man in the Brazillan's absence.

So much so, that former captain Steven Gerrard declared during the week that Mane being away for the African Cup of Nations last season was the reason why the club didn't win the league, while another club legend Jamie Carragher pointed to Mane as more important to Liverpool than Countinho.

Mane joined Liverpool from Southampton for £30million in the summer of 2016 and has not put a foot wrong in his time at Anfield.

He has been dynamic in his performances so far this season both in the league and Champions League qualifiers, forming a delightful front three with Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

Prediction: Liverpool 3 Arsenal 2

Given Liverpool's unbeaten start to the season and an ever-so Arsenal hot/cold start to the season by the Gunners, coupled with the recent record between the two teams, you'd expect the Reds to get the chocolates at home this weekend.

In saying that, should the type of Liverpool flakiness against Watford rear its ugly head again in patches and it's game on for the Gunners, who have enough attacking quality to expose gaps in the Liverpool defence.
