PREMIER LEAGUE: Mata strike gives Man Utd vital victory over Watford

Manchester United continued their winning streak by beating Watford 1-0 at Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Juan Mata scored the only goal of the contest as Louis van Gaal's made it back-to-back wins in the Premier League and four in a row in all competitions.

Morgan Schneiderlin had an ambitious volleyed attempt from range go just wide of Heurelho Gomes' right post inside 20 minutes before Odion Ighalo missed a golden opportunity for the Hornets when sending his shot on the spin to the wrong side of the upright.

There were a few half-chances throughout but nothing of real consequence until United were awarded a free-kick 25 yards out which saw Mata step up and send a be autiful curling effort over the wall and into the top corner.

The victory has the Red Devils in with a great chance of edging their way into the top four as they now sit equal on points with local rivals Manchester City, but behind on goal difference, ahead of Sunday's trip to West Bromwich Albion.

For Quique Sanchez Flores' Watford, they stay 12th as they prepare to host league leaders Leicester City on Saturday.
